How does the Governing Body support school in meeting the needs of pupils with SEND and their families?

At our school, we have a designated governor responsible for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND); Louise Ordige currently holds this role.

The SEND Governor meets regularly with the SENCO to ensure that pupils with SEND and their families receive appropriate support from the school, and when necessary, from external services. She is well-informed about the quality of provision through book reviews, conversations with staff, discussions with the SENCO, and her strong understanding of the school’s context. The Headteacher and SENCO provide formal reports to the SEND Governor three times a year. These reports inform the whole governing body about how the school is meeting the needs of pupils with SEND and help evaluate the impact of the support provided. Through the SEND Governor, the governing body is responsible for offering both support and challenge to school leaders, ensuring that the provision for pupils with SEND is adequate and continually improving.
