Curriculum Intent Statement and Drivers
At St Barnabas each subject and the curriculum overall, have been developed with a clear intent. Each subject is developed around our Blue Sky Drivers and the subject's 6 Golden Threads. These are then used as basis to develop a curriculum that builds knowledge and skills throughout a pupil's time in our school. Below is our overall curriculum intent, to see the intent documents for each subject see their individual pages. Each subject's page will give you further information about the curriculum we follow and external links for more detail if this is required.
We are an inclusive Church of England primary school, we welcome families from all and no faiths and we ensure that our curriculum is accessible to all pupils who attend our school. For further information on how we comply with the Equality Act 2010 please read our Accessibility Plan and our SEND & inclusion Policy.
Curriculum Intent Statement
At St Barnabas the curriculum we deliver has been designed to allow both our pupils and staff to be brave learners; to ask the questions that need to be asked, tackle issues that are important to the community and the world, learn from taking risks and to hold our heads high regardless of how hard something has been.
Units of work, especially ones in History, Science and Geography, are included to explore the legacy of events, discoveries and human events throughout history and today. All of us together will explore the impact of our and other’s actions, looking at how the world has changed for the better and worse and learning how we can leave a lasting positive impact on the world.
We want to learn universally, everyone is welcome here to discover, explore and share their journey with us. Adults and children at St Barnabas will adapt to make sure that everyone who comes through our doors is welcomed and can access all areas of the curriculum. Our lessons allow us time to notice and celebrate the diversity of our local and global communities.
In all areas of our learning and teaching we will strive for excellence, being the best we can possibly be, setting high expectations for ourselves and others so that we can always be proud of our efforts and be successful individuals.
All pupils will have the chance to explore the spirituality of God’s world and the wonders he has created. Through a diverse and inclusive curriculum we hope that all at St Barnabas will be tolerant, proud and excited to celebrate and learn about the wonderful mix of cultures and religions that we have in our school, community and globally.
Throughout all of this knowledge is at the heart of all we do. We want our pupils to learn and retain a wealth of knowledge that will enable them to understand the world around them, access further learning and build a future on a wide knowledge base that will open doors to asking pertinent questions and understanding the answers.
St Barnabas is a primary school where we hope all our staff and pupils will learn a great deal, experience a diverse range of events and most of all have fun through a youthful approach to lessons and life.
It is our intent that through the Christian ethos and values we hold dear, we will develop roots to grow and wings to fly in to the blue sky and beyond!
